Movie News: Ghostface Racks Up The Anticipation!

Right, that's it. I can completely understand how my enthusiastic, often psychotic, behaviour towards the franchise can annoy, but can you blame me with a trailer (BELOW, EEK!) as hilariously entertaining as this? And, as of yesterday, the brand spanking new poster (ABOVE!) that continues the tradition of the previous entries?

Whether or not you find Ghostface scary, whether you give two shits about Sidney, Gale or Dewey or whether you simply want to see Hayden Pantene-Pro V fall victim to Ghosty's knife-happy activities, there's bound to be something in this new chapter that ignites intrigue.

As a die hard fan of the franchise, my heart skips multiple beats at the thought of April 15th being a mere 73 days (please, don't judge) away, therefore you'll also understand my clearly apparent (if you follow my Twitter, it'll appear even more clear) addiction. To list a couple of positivities in regards to the second trailer to Wes Craven's newest addition is difficult, but if i must, i will:

1) DEWEY. GALE. And, of course, SID! They're all back and look as glamorous, as gorgeous and as young as ever. Hopefully -- and my fingers are truly crossed with this one -- they'll maintain their same vigorous attitudes that made them so explosively fun to watch back in the 90's.

2) Hot new cast. Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Nico Tortorella, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and cameos by Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin. Clearly the film is owned by bodacious babes, but that doesn't necessarily pinpoint it as a purely male-based target audience. Well, females enjoy blood don't they? Only the cool ones.

3) While it's most probably cut down to a miniscule second in the film, Hayden's panicked answer when speaking to Ghostface him/herself is genius and, i hope, is a heavy hint of how spot-on Kevin Williamson's writing is for the fourth chapter. Keep your toes crossed!

There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courtney Cox), who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and her Aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately Sidney’s appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger."

New Decade, New Rules. The tagline for one of my most anticipated films of '11. If all lives up to the hype, i'll be one very, very happy horror fan.

Movie News: Scream 4 Causes Mass Anticipation!

Ghostface's long awaited return has been severely under-publicised on Great Expectations - blame the three week holiday, however, seeing as the trilogy has proven to be one of the most inventive trilogies to have cropped up in my lifespan, i have a somewhat never-ending love for Kevin Williamson's fantastically dark script and Wes Craven's keen eye for directing.

Floods of images were thrown onto the internet and welcomed by a pack of wild gore hounds, placing the latest entry -- a supposed opening for a brand new trilogy -- on one of the most anticipated of next year. With it re-defining the slasher genre in the early 90's, high, very high hopes have been placed upon it's already massive shoulders.

With a short but infuriatingly delicious teaser released at this year's Scream Awards, it was only a matter of time before a brand-new trailer was released, accompanied by the many high definition screen caps detailing Ghostface's latest band of hopeful survivors, as well as the glorious return of the three originals; heroine Sidney, damaged cop Dewey and loud-mouthed but undoubtedly lovable Gale Weathers.

Below you'll find the latest teaser for Wes Craven's latest, providing a look at the fresh faces ready for the picking, two of which include 4.3.2.1's starlet Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin, with a hopeful array of surprising, 'big name' cameos being slyly kept under wraps. True Blood star Anna Paquin and romcom favourite Kristin Bell are featured, but how many more can they fit in?

The film is set for an April 15th, 2011 UK release, leaving all of us fans reeling in anticipation.

Movie News: Trailer for Battle: Los Angeles

Those left severely unimpressed by this week's alien invasion thriller Skyline will get more than they bargained for in this sublimely haunting trailer for the Jonathan Liebesman directed epic Battle: Los Angeles.

Marine staff sergeant Aaron Eckhart is thrown into the limelight once mankind falls under threat by an army of extra terrestrials, triggering a full blown war between alien and human.

The film co-stars Bridget Moynahan, Ne-Yo, Michelle Rodriguez and Michael Pena. It's set for a March 25th, 2011 UK release.

Movie News: New Deathly Hallows Trailer!

Once again, Warner Brothers have outdone themselves with the Potter franchise, releasing a brand-new, full length theatrical trailer for the final two-part installment, with never-before-seen footage.

Watch below and revel in the sheer brilliance that is Harry Potter, and be prepared to bid farewell to one of film and literature's most beloved characters.

Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is scheduled for a November 19th release date, with the saga concluding July, 2011.

Movie News: Second Poster for Hatchet II

We couldn't be more welcoming regarding Victor Crowley's return!

Adam Green's sequel to Hatchet, a horror film that boasted returning to the genres roots, is just around the corner. Its October 1st US release date even has me pumped up, with Green able to screen his baby in full unrated quality - unlike the first which was shot down by the MPAA and dumbed down by extreme proportions.

We follow Marybeth (Danielle Harris) as she escapes Victor Crowley, learns of his past and returns back to the swamp with another group of unlucky souls. Will she survive the clutches of one of cinema's most deranged, chaotic and downright batshit insane killers?

Cue another series of fantastically over the top, cringe-induced and preposterous death scenes, cheap, effective scares and a director with enough enthusiasm to re-ignite the dying horror genre.

Movie News: Trailer for Eastwood's Hereafter

I'll be the millionth to admit that acclaimed director Clint Eastwood's surprising turn to develop Hereafter, a supernatural thriller, into his next epic was entirely unexpected. Still, with the surfacing of the trailer for said eerie pulse-pounder, i couldn't feel more gratuitous towards the man.

Matt Damon stars as George, a man whose intriguing connection to the afterlife will cross his paths with three unfortunate hopefuls that find themselves struggling with the upsetting circumstances that have befell upon them. Each life will be changed with what they believe might lay in the hereafter.

Clearly heartfelt and inevitably powerful, Damon and Eastwood's pairing may test the Oscars once and for all, allowing for something different to walk away with something special.

The film has been given an official release date of October 22nd.

Movie News: Arterton In Talks With Ridley?

The hottest piece of news on every movie-goer's tongue today is the supposed meet and greet between British babe Gemma Arterton (St. Trinians, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Clash of the Titans) and renowned director Ridley Scott.

The leaked piece of news is surprising, as the news of Ridley Scott directing another Alien flick was surfaced only a few months ago but, with the original standing flawless, i, and many, were expecting Twentieth Century Fox draw the film out as long as possible.

Rumour has it that Tamara Drew star Arterton will be in talks to star as the film's strong female lead, which frankly baffles as most were expecting the latest Alien to be a prequel, not a remake. With news released previously that *possible spoiler* the news of the Alien race may be used as a government weapon *end of possible spoiler* was what the film was leading on, i'm left in a fit of confusion.

Here's hoping Scott doesn't screw up the chance to reinvent the franchise.

Movie News: Mike Leigh's Latest, Another Year

One of this week's highlights was the trailer premiere of Mike Leigh's next feature, Another Year.

The director of Vera Drake and Happy-Go-Lucky had the premiere of Another Year at this year's Cannes, placing it in the competition for the Palme d'Or. Sadly, the film won no awards, but gathered a nest egg of positive reviews, setting it as one of the most acclaimed of the year.

The film stars Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen, Lesley Manville, Peter Wight and Imelda Staunton.

At the moment, Another Year hasn't received any release date for the UK, but i imagine it hitting early 2011.

Movie News: 127 Hours Hits!

Oscar winning director Danny Boyle (renowned for Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Trainspotting) has possibly hit another high with his latest, 127 Hours.

The film depicts the true story of Aron Ralston, a larger-than-life mountaineer whose unfortunate canyoneering trip in 2003 had him trapped for five days, leaving him to resort to desperate measures.

James Franco (Spider-Man, Milk) plays the title role, with Amber Tamblyn (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants), Kate Mara (Shooter, Zoom) and Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, Cloverfield) filling the co-star quota.

The film is set for a November release date. Check below for the trailer!

Movie News: Sequel Planned For Piranha 3D!

With Alexandre Aja's remake of Joe Dante's camp slasher Piranha hitting theatres last week, the film was welcomed with mixed reviews, but most were leaning more towards the positive.

With comments such as, "the film delivers exactly what horror fans like...", "the violence is gory, gratuitous and convincingly staged..." and "those who go in craving blood, gore and breasts are going to leave the theatre with big, silly grins on their faces", it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced, especially after the original received the same treatment - i'm pretty sure James Cameron won't be returning, however.

Dimension Films was pleased to announce that Piranha 3D: The Sequel is in the works, despite a disappointing sixth place on this week's US Box Office. With a film made with such a minimal budget (compared to most others pegged by Dimension, anyway), a sequel to one of the goriest, outlandish and simply enjoyable films of the year would be welcomed with open arms.

Expect a big-screen return of the razor-toothed prehistoric creatures some time in 2012. Read the review for the recently released Piranha 3D here!

Movie News: Lionsgate Pimp Out Last Exorcism

With the US release just around the corner, The Last Exorcism - Lionsgate's latest horror flick - has been honored with early reviews, therefore the studio are undoubtedly pimping it out as much as possible, with all intentions of creating enough buzz before they start with the Saw 3D campaign.

Below is a collection of moments from *ahem* porn website *ahem*, i mean chat site Chat Roulette, with a couple of young lads being scared half to death due to Lionsgate's fantastically creepy viral videos. All they wanted to see was a cheeky slip!

In the film, a troubled minister allows his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew, unaware of the severity of the situation.

The film is released in the US August 27th, and September 3rd for the UK.

Movie News: Full Length Trailer For Monsters!

Finally, the full-length trailer for Magnet's Indie monster flick 'Monsters' has hit the web.

Hailed as "Utterly unique and original", Magnet has undoubtedly scored big with their $15k sci-fi love story, starring Whitney Able and Scoot McNairy as two civilians caught in the wildfire in the infected zone in Mexico.

After a sample-collecting probe sent by NASA crash lands in Central America, strange life forms began to rapidly evolve, spanning over half of Mexico's landmass. We follow a US journalist escorting a shaken tourist through the 'infected zone', with all hopes of reaching the US border.

Movie News: Poster For BTTF Re-Release

Come October, those who were unlucky enough to miss the classic adventure comedy Back to the Future on the big-screen will have a second chance.

Re-released as a digital presentation, the 25th anniversary of Robert Zemeckis' career defining flick will hit cinemas once more October 1st for a limited time, perfectly timed for the Blu-ray release of the complete collection at the end of the month.

Hopefully this means a remake is off the cards for a good few months at the very least.

Movie News: New Last Exorcism Poster

Released on August 27th in the US and early September for UK viewers, The Last Exorcism is is just around the corner.

Here is the latest poster from the horror, showing a possible spoiler on one of the more creepier events that 'unfolds' throughout the film. Still, it's unarguably effective.

The film, shot Blair Witch style, focuses on a minister that specialises in exorcisms. Vowing to end after this one specific case, he's unaware that this is the case that will defy all knowledge of what he's came up against before after a girl shows behaviour of true possession.

Movie News: He's Back!

That's right, he's back!

Ghostface blatantly returns in this latest behind-the-scenes still released from horror-meister Wes Craven himself, teasing audiences worldwide at the sheer brilliance and overall triumphant return of the devious killer. But who is it?

Answer to said question can only be answered in Scream 4, the latest sequel helmed by Craven again and written by Kevin Williamson, the original Scream duo. 4 will see the return of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette, and says hello to newcomers such as Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorelli, Adam Brody and Marley Shelton.

Seeing as it's more than ten years down the line since we were first introduced to Ghostface, here's hoping he's updated his film knowledge which, as most know, is his greatest weapon to induce pain on his intended victims.

Scream 4 has a scheduled release date in the US of April 15th, 2011.

Movie News: Beauty and the Beast Re-Relesased in 3D!

That's right, here's the trailer for the 3D re-release of Disney's Oscar-winning animated masterpiece, Beauty and the Beast.

Not much has to be said revolving around the subject other than how overly ecstatic i, and many fans i'm sure, am to be able to see such a classic on the big-screen once again.

Re-watch one of the greatest love stories ever told as we follow our young ingenue Belle, a vivacious woman whose love for fictitious, adventure-filled fables becomes all too real once her father, Maurice, is imprisoned by the Beast -- a selfish Prince whose blatant disregard for others forced a mysterious witch to place a curse upon him. To release said curse, the Beast must find love.

The 3D film will be released in August in New Zealand, and sometime in 2011 for the States.

Movie News: Sucker Punch Trailer Hits!

With Zach Snyder's family-friendly 3D animation Legend of the Guardians released soon, buzz around his latest epic Sucker Punch has began to surface.

The director whose firm understanding of how to 'wow' an audience with his visually stunning creations has made hits out of most of his films; 300, Watchmen and even the remake of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

Emily Browning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Uninvited) stars as Baby Doll, a young girl who sadly ends up in a mental institution. There, she imagines an entirely alternate universe. To escape from said world, she must steal five objects before she is unwillingly stopped by a vile man.

The film also stars a cast of young hopefuls suck as Abbie Cornish (Bright Star), Jamie Chung (Sorority Row), Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), Jena Malone (Saved!) and veteran Carla Gugino (Watchmen).

The film hasn't received a release date as of yet, but plans to be released in both 3D and 2D, with a scheduled release in IMAX theatres.

Movie News: Trailer For Lovely, Still

Love truly has no expiration date.

Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn prove said statement with their latest holiday drama Lovely, Still. Landau stars as Robert Malone, a man whose lonely life becomes too much. Still, the silver lining comes in the form of Mary (Burstyn). After an unexpected meeting, the unusual attraction between the two blossoms into a fully-fledged relationship as they both truly fall head-over-heels

Judging by the trailer, the film seems to follow in close footsteps to Julie Christie's critically acclaimed drama Away From Her.

An honest, sweet portrayal of love always works best on-screen, therefore expect promising things.

The film has yet to receive a release date, but co-stars Adam Scott, Elizabeth Banks and is written/directed by first timer Nicholas Fackler.

Movie News: Teaser For Saw 3D

"All true geniuses always save their best for last..."

Jigsaw returns October 22nd in his latest, and final, outing, pitting another group of unlucky souls against an array of his incredibly creative traps, with an inevitably gory outcome to please fans of the seemingly never-ending franchise.

The seventh outcome follows a group of Jigsaw's survivors as they seek the support of a self-help guru, with fellow survivor Bobby Dagen setting off a rippling effect of misery as his very own dark secrets are unleashed.

Fighting at the Box Office with fellow sequel Paranormal Activity 2, will Saw 3D -- the sixth sequel in the series -- rise on top? A sad decline in numbers with Saw VI may see PA2 rise, but a possible advantage is given to Saw 3D as it closes the series. We all want to see Dr. Gordon return, right? S**t, it's what we've wanted since the first god-damn film!

Saw VI director Keven Greutert will direct the final film, with Tobin Bell somehow reprising his role as the inexplicable 'saviour' Jigsaw. Due to Saw VI surprisingly resurrecting the series after the abysmal fifth entry, high hopes are abound with Greutert helming the project.

This is Saw, therefore expect an explosive, unpredictable, gory last act.

Movie News: Poster & Clip For Monsters

A clear wink in the direction of last year's District 9, the poster for the next big budget monster flick Monsters has surfaced this week. Undoubtedly brilliant, stirring enough buzz in my mind to allow myself to search for a possible trailer.

Said trailer doesn't exist as of yet, but below you will find a clip of the film which featured earlier this year at SXSW. Intense and somewhat surprising, this is definitely a film to look out for.

Six years ago a NASA probe crash landed in the New Mexico desert containing samples of alien life. Growing at an alarming rate, the samples expanded and how inhabit the southern US and the north of Mexico. Now, a US journalist agrees to escort an American tourist back through the no-man's land to safety. Will all go smoothly?

A release date for Monsters hasn't been announced.

UPDATE: BBFC have recently given Monsters a UK release date of November 1st, and is rated 12A.
